 Nri town was founded by Obuka,the son of Ifikwanim. Ifikwanim was from the descendant of MENRI.Obuka son of Ifikwanim possessed physical,mystical and spiritual powers,full of wisdom and vision.He possessed almost all the leadership qualities of Eri. He left Aguleri After he had been consecrated as a priest,and resided at Mkpume Onyilienyi located in the present Enugwu-ukwu town,which was as at then occupied by a few pple known as umunwankwo.
He was said to have received blessings from their great ancestor to be a leader of his pple.As his leadership qualities and fame heightens he discovered Agu-ukwu land,which constituted the present Nri town. The land was then occupied by the pple known as umudiana,and he owned a very big farm land at Agu-ukwu. Obuka Ifikwanim married two wives(Agbomma and Adaora) and had seven sons and a daughter. The pple decided to have a king(Eze) to rule them. With the cinsent of their gods,Obuka son of Ifikwanim was chosen,he took Nri traditional title,becomes Nri and was led to Aguleri town during the reign of Eze Agwuve,Ezeora 11,where jr received "UDU EZE"(Ududu Eze),which was the symbol of leadership,authority and Justice.He took Oath of office presided over by the Chief Priest,while the head man of Ndi Nze(Nzemabuo)from Umudiana(Adama)of Agu-ukwu community crowned him the first Eze Nri of(Nri town)around 1015 B.C at 'Mkpume Onyilienyi' located in the present Enugwu-ukwu town which was one of the descendants of umunri clan.The first Eze Nri danced with Ndi Nze,non-titled young men,and finally with his first wife addressed as Lolo Ojiehi after his coronation as the Eze Nri. Dancing with these various classes of pple meant that the King(Eze)had become a father for both the less privileged and the privileged pple in the community.The first Eze Nri ruled with Nzemabuo (Onowu) and Ndi Nze as his Cabinet Chiefs. Abiding to their believe then which demands that a king will relocate to another place for a better life after coronation,the new Eze Nri left his former residence,wife and Chidren at Enugwu-ukwu which was formerly known as Enugwu Umunri town and got married to a new wife (Ugomma)with whom he relocated and resided at Agu-ukwu.Here he established a powerful Kingdom that influenced the entire igboland and even beyond. He willed that only the last born male child will become king in Nri town to keep the remembrance of their grandfather Menri who was the last born male child of Eri and also commemorate himself who were also a last born male child of his father Ifikwanim (Odudu Nwa bu Eze). To prove and also to keep the remembrance that Enugwu-ukwu is the first descendant of Nri, "the Traditional/paramount Ruler of Enugwu-ukwu town is officially addressed as "IGWE UMUNRI NA EZE ENUGWU-UKWU" up till date.
