Surviving in the labour market
It just dawned on me that in a year I would be graduating from the university and moving into the world. There are thousand others in Nigeria who would become ' Fresh graduates ' in a year time and move into the labour market.
As we all know the Nigerian labour market is now over-populated with Graduates but no jobs and the graduating set of 2014 all over Nigeria would add more graduates to the already overflowing bank of Jobless ones. Jobs would be found through connections and what not. For Those without connections what plans do you have for your future ? .
We are now living in a modernised era where carrying Files around and blaming the government is no longer permissible. Listed below are some suggestions on how graduates can survive in this 'cold' world.
* INNOVATION :
The incoming graduates face an uphill task of being innovative or risk joining the millions of jobless Nigerians.
Self-employment and innovation go hand in hand. For one to be self-employed he/she has to be innovative. Also one has to have a plan and vision of what he wants to achieve. Self-employment in this time of ours can be achieved through networking,web designing, photography, computer programming,creative works(acting,singing),modelling etc.
*VERSATILITY AND ADAPTABILITY :
Versatility and adaptability are very important features everyone should possess. An example of versatility can be seen in an individual who acts and still models while also singing. Adaptability can be seen in someone who studied medicine but die to conditions acts . He/she has had to adapt to the situation.
* You have to avoid being yoked by un-enterprising and vision less friends. Many individuals have lost opportunities to become something in life after being discouraged by friends. Most of the times your friends make or mar you. So always try to be surrounded by friends who have visions and plans for the future.
* Also one has to avoid being weighed down by failures. If you fail once, pick yourself up and keep trying. If Thomas Edison was weighed down by his failures then we won't have electricity today. If Abraham lincoln had given up after failing severally then he would never have become the president of the united states.
* No human-being is without his/her weak points but the ability to play to your advantages over your disadvantages is what makes you who you are. Also try to make sure your advantages are more than your peers in order to give you an edge over them.
