Real Madrid vs Manchester United break US record

Michigan Stadium Aug2014

A total of 109,318 spectators were in the Michigan Stadium, to watch Manchester United defeat Real Madrid 3-1, setting a new record for attendance at a football match in the US.
The previous record stood at 101,799 and was set at the 1984 Olympic final between France and Brazil, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
Ashley Young scored a brace either side of a Gareth Bale penalty, before Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez made the game safe for Louis van Gaal’s side.
United will now play fierce rivals Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup on August 4, at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. Madrid will square up against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup.
