‎ ‎Buhari will not force his ministers to take salary cut


Following the decision of the President and Vice President to take a 50% salary cut, the Presidency on Sunday, revealed that those whowill emerge ministers and aides will not be forced into doing so.President Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo had on Friday announced their decision to take only half of the salary approved for them by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.Consequently, it was widely speculated that Buhari may compel those he would appoint into his cabinet to take the same decision.However Senior SpecialAssistant to the President on Media andPublicity, Mallam GarbaShehu, has given some clarity into the matter.Shehu stated that the decision taken by Buhari and Osinbajo to half their salaries was personal to them, adding that it was not a government policy.He said: "The decision taken by the President and Vice President was a voluntary thing. The decision is not a government policy, it is personal.""You will observe that the President did not say they should issue a circular. If he wants it to become a government policy, he will issue the directive through a proper channel. He won't make it compulsory, that is the position for now."
